You may have heard that Bradley Wiggins has won this year’s Tour de France. What you may not know is that Sean Bannister coached him in his early days.
A nice article with quotes from Sean can be found in Saturday’s Guardian here

While Wiggo was finishing a bit of a ride Willesden were in action up in Cheshire.
Stuart Birnie was second by a mere 8 miles with 480.723. New member Jane Swain wearing Willesden pink set a new ladies Vest record for ladies tricycle with 333.628. She also beat my best by 15 miles so I will have to be brave and have another go.
I lost my mixed Longbarrow best to Ralph Dadswell and Marina Bloom who added 23 miles to my previous best with 424 to set a new Comp record.
A good weekend for cycling all round

Ian Why has asked that the following message be passed on –
In March this year “Welcome to Yorkshire” made an official bid to host the Grand Départ of the greatest cycle race in the world, the Tour de France.
With the support of key partners across the county we are working hard to bring the world’s largest annual sporting event to Yorkshire, it would mean the superstars of the sport racing across the breadth of our great county bringing the world’s global media to Yorkshire and giving our local economy a multi-million pound boost.
It is a bid that has already attracted high profile support from some of Britai’s top cyclists, Mark Cavendish, Ben Swift and Ed Clancy.
Now we need yours.
We want to show the organisers of the Tour de France that the entire county is behind the bid. So I wondered if your club might show its support by doing two things:
1. Encouraging members to add their names to the online support page – www.yorkshire.com/backlebid
It takes one minute to complete but the legacy for Yorkshire could last a lifetime.
We know Yorkshire can stage an amazing Grand Départ, please help us to bring the Le Tour to Yorkshire by encouraging as many people as possible to sign the online form
Thank you for your support in advance.
Another cold and windy night at Welwyn but some good results again for the Club. Roger Woodford won the 10 lap scratch with a big effort on the last lap to pull back riders who had broken away. He followed this up with a fine second place in the elimination race.
Connor Woodford again was up in the results finishing third in the points race and stayed away in the 5 lap handicap until yards from the line still holding on for third place.
The funeral will take place on Friday, 22nd June in the West Chapel of the Brakespeare Crem at 12.15p.m. Family and Organisations flowers only requested. Donations may be made to the Marie Curie Cancer Trust, Supporter Services Team, at 89 Albert Embankment, London SE1 7 TP.
