Hippy’s Hill Climb
2012 West London Combine Hill Climb – Windsor Hill (HCC011)
Another year and another horrid, rasping, coughing fit whilst trying to ascend a short, sharp hill as fast as gravity will let me. 2:05 as it turns out.
I’m pretty happy with 2:05.71 (I think) which puts me in 3rd or 4th overall and 1st Willesden CC rider. It’s only 4 seconds slower than last year on a bike that hasn’t been used all year other than as a spare. Although faster at all TT distances this year I thought the midfoot cleat position might hamper me more on the ‘all out’ hill climb. Actually, I don’t think it was the case at all. Motivation for this hill climb was low, having met all my goals and so I was a few kilos heavier this time around. Last year, can you believe, I actually stopped drinking for a while before this!
The coolest thing about hill climbs though is that people come to watch (you suffer) and cheer. I love that. So, thanks everyone who yelled or clapped and I will see you again next year, Windsor Hill. *shudders*

Jayne’s UCI 2012 Track Masters Cam-paine
Jayne is getting in to her stride in this years Track Masters held in Manchester. On Monday she got a 4th position in the TT with a 40.7.
In the Pursuit event on Tuesday Jayne was up against Janet Birkmyre, who had set a world’s best of 2.34 in the qualifying rounds. Jayne said “I was seeded 1st, so I went last. I didn’t have to do anything too dramatic to get into the Gold-Silver ride-off and managed a 2.38.”
“I thought I had more in the legs and went into the final thinking I could do a PB if nothing else. I forgot to tell my legs. I faded in the last 3 laps and did 2.40 and got the silver. Orla Hendron, my mate from Ireland, got bronze with 2.45”
Jayne has two further events this week, the Scratch race on Thursday and the points race on Saturday.

Road Race update
Thanks very much to everyone who has offered to help at the Road Race.
We’ve now got a full field for the morning race AND only 5 riders short of a full field for the Elite Race in the afternoon too.
I’ve made a brief list of those who have offered to help, and who will be doing what.
Please make sure you keep an eye on the weather and bring clothing for all conditions if possible. A fold up chair for marshals would be a great comfort if you have one available.
For Marshals, please can you be at the HQ which is at Neighbours hall, Church Road, Great Milton, Oxfordshire, OX44 by 8:30am at the latest. This will give you time to have a cup of tea and for John Wheatley to organise you all.
Once the morning race has finished and the Racers in the club have finished, then we will have more marshals and anyone who needs to leave can do so.
If you can only make the afternoon, please can you arrive at 12pm if possible.

Rocco Memorial Ride 500 aka Bog Standard or Pinner-Brecon-Pinner (PBP)
Willesden CC member Martin Lucas has kindly sent in the following report:
As a fond memorial to Rocco, a select group of long distance cyclists gathered early on Saturday 18th August. Their aim was to follow a route established by Rocco himself from Willesden territory to Brecon in SE Wales and back for a distance of over 500 km; a good fast route on major roads with a few hills to test the legs and descents to test the nerves. Add a tandem into the mix to speed progress on the flat and all the essential ingredients were in place, even the summer made a re-appearance.
The ride was completed in true Rocco Rocket style with the group remaining together for a very sociable weekend awheel. Rumour has it that the route will be established as an Audax UK permanent event so that others can ride in the future.

Road Race details
Just an update with more details for the Road Race…
The morning race is now full with 90 riders and reserves are filling up, the afternoon race has about 45 riders at the moment which is great news.
So far the following people have volunteered to help out and I still have spaces which are mainly for marshalling. There are several Willesden riders taking part in the morning race and due to that shortage we are desperate for more people in the morning.
Thanks to those who have offered to help so far.
Willesden Riders (am)
Volunteers so far
Richard Jerome – Organiser, Photo Finish, driver if needed.
Tom and Charlotte Zittel – Signing on (7am – 9:30am) and (11:30am – 1pm)
Haymie Thacker – Signing on (7am – 9:30am) and finish marshal at 11:30am approx and 5pm approx.
Catering – Nici Savage and Suzanne Cooper
Chief Marshall – John Wheatley (7am until finish, TBC with John Wheatley)
First Aid and Driving – Ray Kelly
John Williams – Riding am race and driver pm race.
I am still in need of around 15 marshals for the entire day, obviously without marshals the race will have to be cancelled. If you have entered the morning race, I would appreciate it if you could assist with marshalling in the afternoon.
Many thanks
Richard
