For those planning on using public transport to get themselves and their track bikes to the WCC track training day at the Lee Valley velodrome on the 13th April there are some rail engineering services that might affect your journey planning.
Probably the most direct public transport service to the the Velodrome from West London is to use the Overground line to Stratford. Unfortunately there will be engineering services on 13th April, which means the Overground will only be open between Camden Road and Stratford. Whilst the line is scheduled to fully reopen at 12:30pm on the 13th, it leaves just a scant hour until our WCC velodrome session starts at 1:30pm. To see full details of advanced Overground and Tube engineering works, see here.
The best alternative plan is to use either the DLR, National Rail, Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City or District lines, all of whom will allow non-folding bikes to be carried all day at weekends. Here are some alternative options –
National Rail to Stratford
Use the Circle, Metropolitan or Hammersmith & City line to Liverpool Street, then take the National Rail service to Stratford (about 7-10 mins).
By Tube and DLR to Stratford
For those intending to use the Hammersmith & City or District line, you will need to change once at either –
a) Bow Church and then continue on to Stratford on the DLR.
or
b) at West Ham and continue on to Stratford on either the DLR or Jubilee line.
For those wanting to use either the Metropolitan or Circle line, you will need to change twice. Once at Liverpool Street to get on to the Hammersmith & City line, and then again at either –
a) at Bow Church to continue on to Stratford on the DLR,
or
b) at West Ham and continue on to Stratford on either the DLR or Jubilee line.
For further information on which lines you can take your bike on (non-folding) please see this map.
In the meantime I will try and do a reccy of the journey and report back with any tips or work-arounds. However if you have other suggestion or questions then let me know through the comments box below.

As many of you may already know Chris James, affectionately known to all of us simply as “Jumbo”, passed away yesterday afternoon. Chris was a very keen and valuable member of the Willesden CC and did much to help people in any way he could. At the December AGM he was awarded the WCC Sash-of-Honour as recognition of his cheerful, helpful and welcoming manner as the “Signer-on” at the club’s Friday afternoon training sessions at Hillingdon – he made parting with £3 a pleasure! He will be fondly remembered by many, RIP Jumbo.
Booking is now open for taster sessions at Lee Valley Velopark.
Our club Track session is fully booked but you can still get on the track by booking a taster session.
Pricing for adults is £30 for the Velodrome and £15 for Road, BMX and MTB. The taster sessions will help you gain accreditation to ride the Velodrome as an accredited rider. Further details here.
Ray Kelly is urging you all to strongly consider forming WCC teams for the 2014 Ride London 100, which will take place over 9-10th August.
According to the information Ray has received there will be space for 400 teams via British Cycling, each consisting of 5 riders. The organisers are expecting demand for places to be high and there may be a ballot to select the successful teams. Further details will be posted on the British Cycling website on 3rd March, but in the meantime it would be a good idea to start forming yourselves into teams in readiness for when entries open.
Four Willesden riders Marianne Connor Harriet and Roger along with Derny pacers Sean and Ian took part in a Derny test event at the London velodrome yesterday. With ten derny’s going around in a tight group on the 250m track it was a spectacular test session. Thanks to Sean for organising and inviting us all along.
We just want to say thanks to Charlotte Zittel for coming forward to take over the role of Social Secretary. We know she (and Tom – I say this as he will get sucked in) will do a fantastic job and it is tailor made for her. Have fun Charlotte and all the Willesden wish you luck and will support you in all your endeavours.
Thanks to everyone who supported Wendy and Jim over the years (too many) in our role as Social Secretaries.
The British Triathlon Federation has informed Ray Tucker that he been pre-selected for the British Duathlon Team for this year’s World Championships in Spain this June and does not need to take part in any of the Trials. Well done Ray!
Ron Purdy is in training for his mini triathlon in May – he was contacted by the organisers to remind him to sign up for this year’s competition. Well done Ron!
We will keep an eye on both Ray and Ron’s results.

Don’t forget it’s the club reliability trial on the 16th. Super organiser Ray Kelly has booked fine weather especially for the event. Probably.
