As most of you may know, for the past few years, I have been making arrangements with the Hotel Gambrinus in Riccione on the East Coast of Italy, for a group of us to stay with them for a week. There were 24 of us last year staying at the hotel who put on Tour Guides every day for groups of different ability over 35 to 55 mile rides.
I am the central point of contact with the hotel but people have to book their own travel arrangements using Bologna or Rimini airports.
The week proposed for next year is 25th April to 2nd May and I will be talking to the hotel before the end of September to try to get a block reservation of rooms and bikes to hire.
As a guide, in 2019 the price per person sharing a twin or double room was 49 euro plus city tax. This is full board, including wine at the dinner table in the evening. Bikes are about 90 euro a week (you need your own insurance). Return air fares were between £70 and £120 depending on when you book etc and an extra coach fare will be payable if flying in to Bologna.
The hotel is not massive and priority will be given to WCC members / friends who have been before.
Full details to follow in due course but it is important for us to look at a potential group number to get rooms and bikes reserved in advance.
With this in mind, please could you indicate your level of interest to me by September 22nd 2019 by email gerry@gerrymcmanus.co.uk
Please note that it’s a cycling holiday and not a training week

The Tropic club is hosting a night featuring an AC/DC tribute band called AC/DC UK – £12 in advance or £14 on the door.
The act features their most famous songs including (I guess) Back In Black, Whole Lotta Rosie, Dirty Deeds Done Cheap and Thunderstruck.
Please let me know if you are going by September 6th so I can get tickets in advance for everyone and you can pay me on the night.
email me at gerry@gerrymcmanus.co.uk
The venue is a short walk from Ruislip / Ruislip Manor Tube Stations

Race History and Trophies
The “John Walker Trophy” is a E/1/2 Road race and is the pinnacle of all Willesden CC events. The winner will have their name engraved on the the prestigious and impressive trophy, which is a salute to John Walker. John was a great wit and raconteur in the Willesden CC and for many years he was the Master of Ceremonies at our annual club dinner. John was an avid jazz fan and his bike was badged up as a Stan Getz to honour the great American jazz saxophonist. John was also a creative and artistic person who had a talent for airbrushing incredibly intricate and dark satanic designs on to custom motorbikes.

Did you know there was a great football club just round the corner from the cycle circuit at Minet Park?
They play in the Bet Victor sponsored Southern League Premier Division
This match will be a hotly contested local derby. H and Y were Isthmian League champions last season and are new boys to this league with a point to prove.
Tickets are £10 adults and £6 concessions. I believe tea and burgers will be available for purchase.
There will be cycle racing on the circuit before hand starting at 6.30 so you can watch a bit of that before hand and grab tea and cake in the HQ, where we will congregate. Cars need to be moved to the H and Y car park in time for the game.
AS a final salute to dear John Tipping a few of us will be riding to his funeral from Jenners Café at Boulters lock on Monday 29th July 2019.
We are planning to meet at Jenners Café from 10:00am onwards on Monday 29th, with the aim of leaving for John’s Funeral at 10:45am, which will be held at Easthampstead Crematorium, Nine Mile Ride, Wokingham RG403DW. The route is 15 miles long and think we should be arrive at the Crematorium between 12:00 and 12:15pm so that we can accompany the cortege.
If you have a Willesden top then sport it proudly in Tippy’s honour. The “wake” is very close by and it should only take us 5 minutes to ride there from the Crematorium.
So far there are six of us riding at Jenners, if anyone else would like to join us then you would be most welcome – please let me know either through this blog post or the Willesden CC Facebook page.
John Davies
From Tony Willard
The funeral of John will take place at Easthampstead Crematorium Nine Mile Ride Wokingham RG403DW on Monday 29 July at 1230pm and afterwards at Pinewood Cafe and Bar Old Wokingham Road RG403AQ
Those wishing to cycle behind the hearse from the entrance to the crematorium (200 yards) may do so after parking up.
The wearing of Willesden CC tops etc. would be a nice tribute to John.
Please could you let me know if you are attending. Email address is tonywillard272 at gmail.com
Tony Willard posted this on the club Facebook page.
“It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that my old friend John Tipping passed away on Tuesday.
Details are all a bit vague at the moment, but funeral arrangements will be known later.
RIP my old mate and thanks for all the memories.”

Especially if you audaxed, you would have known long-time Willesden member Tim Wainwright. Tim sadly died in March 2017, and now his wife Pauline, herself a cyclist, is putting his bikes up for sale.
His audaxing career started in the late 80s and he died as the result of a colliding with a parked van when out on his bike. He rode in most major audax events and had a host of audax palmares. When he wasn’t riding himself, he was expertly photographing events. He managed to make time to edit one edition each year of Arrivee, Audax UK’s magazine. He was also a thoroughly likeable man.
http://www.eastsurreyctc.co.uk/pages/TimWainwright.htm is a very good tribute to Tim.
There are two bikes: BOTH HAVE NOW BEEN SOLD!
Mercian Flam Red

Mercian red bike
small ding to top tube otherwise perfectly straight
Shorter Blue

Both ready to run. Would make excellent winter / commuting bikes
Tim’s friend Paul Coan is dealing with the sale. If you are interested please contact him at paulcoan at hotmail.co.uk
6.30pm on Wednesdays. Start outside Cycle Right, Northwood Hills. Bring lights but we should be back before dark. Not too far and not too fast. Just right.
The West London CA 25 was held on 7th April. Jaysel recorded a 1.08.58. A great ride considering he rode the 32 miles out to the event into a headwind! The conditions were cool and foggy. Gill managed a 1.22.27 – a slow time but a lot of effort went into it. Brian Moon and Ray Green and Derek were out to support he Willesden Riders. Casey Matthews was unable to start due to illness.
The next West London CA 25 is on the 19th May. The Willesden is down to help the Twickenham with the marshalling. If you can help with the marshalling please let Gill know. We are no longer running the 50 so helping marshalling this 25 is not too much to ask.
If members want to ride the event on the 19th May can they let Gill know (07594435107 or g.reynolds@live.co.uk)) by 12th May.
As the Willesden members will be either marshalling or riding this event – the club run destination has been changed to the Coffee Shop at Aston Clinton.
If any one has any ideas for a club run destination (or want to lead one) can they let me know. Gill
FRIDAY SESSIONS ARE BACK!
STOP PRESS!! There WILL be a session on Good Friday 19 April, which makes it Really Good Friday.
Please support your club by attending. You can ride, train, or just drop by for a chat and a mug of tea. Willesden CC needs more members to support it by attending these sessions. Your membership also entitles you to a discount on the already modest fee for Fridays, and you will be making a £2 saving on the cost we charge non-members to ride. This all helps contribute to the hire of the circuit.
Club coaches are always on hand, giving their time voluntarily to provide you with guidance, support and training to achieve your goals for the season. All levels are catered for.
Sessions start from 5:30pm.
Please check the images below for a taste of what you’re missing.
I spotted this posting on the Willesden Local History Society. It is from a newspaper said to have been published in 1888. Note the time the club run starts.
Anyone have any further information on the Willenden Rovers?
I am part of the team that organise the Samaritans Cycle Ride in West Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
We are a stone’s throw away from London. I am contacting all the cycling clubs I can find and ask them to tell their members of our charity cycling event.
The Samaritans Cycle Sportive is now in its third year and is firmly established as one of the best value sportive events in the Chilterns and is situated on London’s doorstep. With all proceeds going to the Chiltern Samaritans.
All entrants completing any of the 3 routes will receive a free glass of local Ale, a free burger, a shiny medal and during the ride, enjoy wonderful free feed stations and to take in the glorious Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty scenery together with chipped timing. (the chipped timing will also put riders into Gold, Silver or Bronze for their times/age). Tickets from only £15 !!
The Samaritans Cycle Charity sportive consists of 3 routes, 20, 50 & 80 miles. The 50 & 80 mile routes include the infamous Whiteleaf Hill and the Whiteleaf Challenge when the fastest of the day will get the Whiteleaf Challenge trophy.
All three routes have excellent route management, which includes chip timing, gpx file, signage and marshals on the day.
I am also part of Amersham Cycling club and other members of the team are Wycombe Cycling Club, so any events you need promoting to other clubs, please contact me and we can distribute to our clubs and advertise them on our websites.
Many thanks,
Peter Hart
We are also on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/samaritanscycle/
Once again British Cycling is offering affiliated clubs the chance to apply for team entries for the Ride London event due to take place on Sunday 4th August 2019.
Team categories can be all men, all women or mixed (two men and two women). There are places for 300 teams in the British Cycling Club Challenge. If the demand from clubs for team entries is greater than the available places, entries will be awarded on a proportional basis, based on the number of British Cycling members at each club followed by a random draw, if required.
Ray Kelly will be managing the team entries for the Willesden CC. So please contact him immediately for your place on one of our teams. Ray’s email address is raymondkelly211@btinternet.com.
Ray will be making our team application shortly, so you have no time to lose!!
