Jane took over two minutes off club Trike record for a 10 mile Time Trial on Bank Holiday Monday. Jane was racing at the Tricycle Association’s NE regional “Mike Dixie Memorial 10” on the fast V718 course near Hull. Jane’s time was 29:03 and she came 2nd on handicap, the only woman in the top 13 finishers! Many of the fast 3-wheeler men were in the race, which makes Jane’s result even the more impressive.
Many thanks to Jane’s Directeur Sportif, Mark Brooking, for providing the results and photo.
Another busy week for our members!

I think I might have a rest today although I know that the youngsters and the time trialists will be out riding events this evening..
Hope you have a good week.
Gladys

Alex had a really good night at Welwyn, here is his report:
The second night of Welwyn track league was a very chilly one. However I (Alex) was feeling brave and decided to leave the leg warners at home… As soon as I took my trackies off I regretted this decision, so thanks Connor for being sensible and bringing a spare pair!
Tom, Sam and I rode the senior B events while Connor decided to step up and ride the senior A. I won the Scratch by a whisker and the bloc pursuit by half a whisker, nearly getting pipped to the line in both events. My win in the points was a little more comfortable as I managed to breakaway in the middle, sit up and still win the sprint for the last set of points!
Sam and Tom rode well at their first track league appearance at Welwyn, with several strong attacks which didn’t quite stick in the heavy wind. Now they have a feel for the track I’m expecting a clean sweep from one of them next week!
Meanwhile in the A’s Connor adapted well to the higher pace and the end of the night he was riding very comfortably in the group for the ten mile event. Connor and I were in the leading group for the majority of that race but missed a breakaway in the last few laps that managed to stay away…
All in all another successful night for the Squadra Verde!
Tom with a gap in the Points race.
Bs 10 lap scratch final sprint
Connor and I (Alex) raced at Eelmore last night. It was dusty and boring as per normal. I got 6th/7th (to be confirmed) and Connor got caught up behind a crash in the sprint so slipped just outside the top 10. First points of the year for me, just 37 to go!

Wednesday night Kye also raced Eelmore and came away with a brilliant 3rd place
This week Connor, Darryl and I decided to join Sam and ride the E123. An early duo escaped (Nuun-Sigma Sport & Pedal Heaven) afterwards the pace was erratic with many riders trying to join the break while Nunn and Pedal Heaven covered the moves. Each of us had go at least once but nothing stuck. I managed to get into a strong group at one point, which I thought would stay away but the wind meant we didn’t work well together.
Eventually a chase with several strong riders got away, and the pace went up to over 30mph! Darryl and I came to the front to try and pull them back. This jump in the pace unfortunately led to Connor and Sam getting dropped after their earlier efforts.
In the last laps the chasing group pulled away and took the majority of the top places behind the winning duo. The bunch sprint was a little shaky, Darryl and I almost ended up on the grass coming out of the hair pin and lost position… However we both felt strong enough and hopefully there will be a better result next week!
Alex Pierce 26th
Darryl Lusardi 28th
Connor Woodford DNF
Sam Grant DNF
The race started off at a nice comfortable pace. After a short while it soon picked up. One or two attempted breakaways were closed down towards the end of the race.
Graham and I were nice and comfortable in the group and managed to stay in till the very end for the fast sprint! I was very pleased with my performance!
14th Graham Simpson
19th Simon Passey

All for now,

Yesterday was the second and final part of the Willesden CC’s Spring Go-Ride racing at Malorees school.
The forecast rain did not appear and the grass track was in good shape for the day’s racing. A hallmark of this mini-series has been good turnouts and very competitive racing by the local young riders. Yesterday we had 22 riders ranging between 4 and 12 years old, with the youngest still sporting a natty pair of stabilizers. I must say that bike handling skills were very impressive, with not one faller or collision throughout the day. Well done all to all racers and well done to Ray Kelly and Paul Kaffel for coaching the children so well and for making the whole day possible.
We managed to cram 10 races and an “All-Stars” prize presentation into a couple of hours. All the children were fantastic, giving a great show to all the adults who loudly cheered from the “Grandstands”.
Thanks to Vyv Baker and Janice Kelly who ably managed a last minute rush of entries as well as keeping everyone supplied in tea and cake. A special treat for Ray and me was that Rod and Roger Woodford took down the course and packed every thing away whilst we were sorting out the prizes – thank you guys, you’re up for a medal next time! Defo!
So here is the bit you been waiting for…… the full results covered from every possible angle. Just click here to download the results (PDF Format) —> 2015-04-26 Malorees Results
All the children and adults enjoyed the day, so there is a real demand for more races in the summer, so watch this blog for more details on possible dates.

Ian and Pauline Why organised a superb mid-week Audax yesterday. Ian had ordered good weather for the event and it was delivered in buckets and on time. This was to the complete satisfaction of all riders, many of whom were stripped down to shorts and summer jerseys.
Ian and Pauline’s smooth management of the signing on process lent a calm and unruffled atmosphere to the start of the event, coping easily with over half of the 40+ strong field who were entering-on-the-line. They also laid on Ray Kelly to provide background banter and to test drive the cafe’s bacon sarny/cappuccino combo – a brave man that!
Tony Willard readies himself for the start. Good to see Tony back on form after his nasty spill earlier this year
As soon as ten o’clock arrived, we left – sorry ten o’clock it was nothing personal. The Captain, Miles Back and Mrs Back rode as a team, immediately setting a tempo that enabled us to move in to a very strong and unassailable last position.
Once out of Maidhead the route settled in to a string of quite and delightful lanes as we streamed along to the turn at Pangbourne. All the necessary info controls were in safe positions, easy to locate and simple to remember. After a short excursion off route in Pangbourne to cycle past the Lamborghini shows rooms we were soon in the Pangbourne cafe to be greeted by Jim and Wendy Mears on Brevet card stamping duties.
I had my customary mid ride meal of beans on toast. Danny Pollock of the Gregarios is renouned for setting standards for this bean based nutrition. My serving rated an impressive 9/10 on the Pollox scale.
Whilst on my second cappuccino Jim reveled that Jim McKay had not been though yet. This could not be true – Jim nips along at formidable pace. I thought he must have whizzed through so fast that he was somehow missed. Moments later my jaw swung open as Mr McK appeared. He was missing his chain, his rear derailleur and most of the skin off one knuckle. A pothole had unseated him and whilst lying on the ground he also managed to break the fall of the following rider. A bit shocked but reasonably in tact Jim had to abandon and was ferried back home by the ever helpful Jim and Wendy.
The return leg saw the Captain make a calculated attack – to me it had all the hallmarks of a hard rider off to film lambs is a field to post on to Facebook. The hills of the second half of the ride were quite demanding and we arrived back at a deserted finish except for Ian and Pauline had dutifully waited for us to return.
It was another evening of nice weather for the racing at Hillingdon last night. Continue reading

The club’s 400k Audax from Chalfont St Peter to Chepstow and back, runs on 9 May and is filling up fast. If you have not entered you’ll need to get a move on. And if you are free early on the morning of 9 May, your tea-making skills would be appreciated.
The event has run for 14 years and is part of the club’s Super Randonneur Series that includes the epic 600k Beast from the East. Part of the qualifying series for this years Paris-Brest-Paris, the Seven Across runs to Woodstock, Tewkesbury, Newent, Chepstow, Malmsbury, Wootton Basset, Membury and Henley. It is mostly flatish but with a couple of interesting lumps on the approach and exit from Chepstow; the ride’s challenge is really a test of mental stamina.
With a cap on around 100 entries there are still places for Willesden members who want to have a go.
The ride starts at 0600 from Chalfont St Peter Community Centre and organiser Liam FitzPatrick would be delighted to have any help he can get from 0500 with tea making for the riders. If you can help contact Liam on 07881 841 355 or lfitzpatrick01@gmail.com
