I [ rode] a midweek 2 up 10 and rode with one of the people I train with. The event was the Weston Wheelers 2 up 10 mile TT on the U21/10 on the 26 May, Ian Hutchins (Somerset Road Club – Bicycle Chain) and I did a 22.44 which was good enough for second place behind M. Ashurst and T Lewis – Somerset Road Club – Bicycle Chain. I would like to say I was doing my fair share of the work but Ian was doing much longer and harder turns on the front than me but even so I was very pleased with the result as this was my first 10 in 7 years. It is probably the flattest and fairest 10 course I have ever ridden with the start and finish exactly opposite each other, next to no traffic and with the exception of the bridge over the M5 it was absolutely flat but then I should have expected that on the Somerset levels!
Meanwhile the vets were in action again. Gladys reports:
In the sweltering heat yesterday afternoon the London Vets held a 10 mile time trial on the Fifield course. It was touch and go as the workmen were filling in holes in Drift Road ready for the Windsor Triathlon. Gill Reynolds and Pete Cookson took the team award with a combined plus of 10:17. Pete was 3rd fastest Vet in 24:07, Gill finished in 27:10, Brian Moon 29:20 and Ron Purdy 33:37.
