Tragic News from Tunisia Attack
My friend and Willesden CC member Larry Dyer has tragically lost his son Chris in the Tunisia shooting on June 26th. His wife Gina is seriously injured. A fund has been organised to give some support to his wife during this difficult period.
Any donation however small would be greatly appreciated. I can also collect in person at Hillingdon circuit on Friday evening sessions.
Thank you,
Halil Mehmed

The BBC reports:
Chris Dyer, 32, an engineer from Watford, was on holiday with his wife Gina Van Dort when he was killed in the attack. She is reported as having clung on to her dead husband’s hand as paramedics tried to get her to safety.
Mr Dyer was a Jiu-Jitsu enthusiast and a member of Watford Gracie Jiu-Jitsu club.
In a statement on Facebook, the group said: “There are no words to express how incredibly shaken we are by Chris Dyer’s unexpected, tragic death.”
A minute’s silence was held outside Watford Football Club’s ground, Vicarage Road, to remember Mr Dyer and other people killed in the attack.

Club Run – Sunday 5 July
The Club Run on Sunday was scheduled for the Acorn Nursery at Stadhampton. Unfortunately, the cafe there is currently closed, so as an alternative we will do the ride out to Quainton which was planned for last week and cut short due to rain.

“Best Tuesday Night Yet” for Willesden Racers
Connor Woodford, Darryl Lusardi and Alex Pierce raced in the scorching heat at hillingdon on Tuesday night. A breakaway of 3 got away and despite making several attempts to bridge the gap, they were too strong for the trio to get across.
In the end Alex got 3rd in the bunch sprint, taking 6th overall, while Darryl came 9th and Connor 14th. The most successful Tuesday night yet!

News and Results from Glad
This week:
Gill Reynolds rode in the. Alton R.C. 10 in humid conditions on Saturday recording 26 .33 then on Sunday in the West London C.A she took 1st lady with a ride of 26.18.
Last week:
On Tuesday evening at Hillington Circuit in the BC West Thames event Daryl Lusardi finished 14th closely followed by Connor Woodford in 16th place.
On Saturday in the Full Gas Legacy events at the Olympic Velodrome Alex Pierce finished 3rd in the Scratch Race with Connor Woodford placed 6th. Connor rode the elimination race and finished 3rd. In the points race Alex took 2nd place and Connor did well to gain a high enough place to finish 2nd overall in the evening’s events for Under 30 years, although he is still a Junior. Alex was the winner of the overall Under 30 events.
Roger Woodford (Connor’s Uncle), took part in his first triathalon at Windsor on Sunday and although he struggled with the swimming gained time on the cycling stage, which included 3 times uphill to the Castle, to complete the event in 2.41.57. He was placed 626 out of 1817 finishers. His next target is the London Triathalon in August.
Gill Reynolds had a scary ride at Tring in the Hemel Hempstead 10 on Saturday. Torrential rain and high winds caused one rider to be blown off their bike and another was taken to hospital after being hit by a car. Nevertheless, in spite of dismounting at one of the turns, she finished in 25.03.

Maccy 3rd in Exceedingly Competitive U10 Race
Great night at Hillingdon cycle circuit for another Slipstreamers Summer Series. The weather was stunning and unbelievably not a breath of wind. U10’s raced with u12’s and Cormac rode a great race having a go off the front for a while. Jed Smithson u10 rode brilliantly to go solo on the final lap, the other places were decided by a brilliant sprint with Joe O’Brien u10 taking 2nd and Cormac with a great final sprint to take 3rd. A fabulous night all round especially for the u10’s!
Here’s a little video of the action

Raymond Kelly says “Really competitive race. 21 MPH average for under 12 and under 10 years riders. Superb!”
Pierce Podiums at the Bowl
Connor Woodford and I (Alex Pierce) rode the BIG events race at the MK bowl on Saturday.
Neither of us have ever ridden the senior course before, and due to a sign on glitch didn’t get a chance to have a proper ride around the course before the start.
We soon learnt that there were several dodgy bends which caused a pretty erratic pace to be set for the entire race. This didn’t suit Connor, after missing out on warming up, and he pulled his calf about halfway through.
I managed to last the distance, but was forced to launch my sprint at the bottom of the climb. This was a little earlier than I would have liked, and I couldn’t quite hold on to the line, picking up a close second place, 0.01 seconds behind according to the transponder!
8 points to 2nd Cat 🙌

Jayne Paine – National Master
Before whizzing off for cycling holiday in France Jayne won the women’s National Masters Closed Circuit championship held on 13th June at the Minet Park track. Jayne was contesting the title in the Women’s E+ category.
Jayne said “All the age groups were together and that only brought us up to about 25 women. There was only me and Debbie Moore who won the Masters RR in my age group (50+) so I had been told there wouldn’t be medals for us. This was a bit piqueing but then I thought hey ho I’ll rip it up a bit and have some fun.”
“There were a few attacks, some of which I went with, but they came to nothing. I launched an attack on my own, and to be honest, after 4 laps out I was very happy to be caught. Nothing much happened after that, or if it did I was too knackered to notice!”
“With one lap to go it all got a bit stressful and I only managed to wriggle out of my box in the push up the sharp little hill.
I think I came 5th or 6th overall which I was pleased with considering the riders. Most importantly I sent Debbie back to Dallas and the commissaires gave me a gold medal and a jersey anyway which I think was out of pity for being such a try-hard!”

Trio of Willesden ride the Kenton RR
Connor Woodford, Darryl Lusardi and I (Alex Pierce) rode the Kenton Road Race Sunday on the Cheddington course.
It was a reasonably windy day and I tried to attack on several occasions, none of which led to more than a 20 second gap due to uncooperative breakaway partners.
It was all together for the finish but Connor and I got caught behind a crash on the second to last corner so couldn’t contest the sprint. Meanwhile Darryl finished safely within the group… Not the result we were after but that’s racing!
Tony Lusardi grabbed a video or two of the action.

Willesden Duo Take Top Honours at Slipstreamers Summer Crit
What a great night at Hillingdon tonight in the Slipstreamers Summer Series!
Cormac Nisbet and Josh Copley rode brilliantly in their own categories.Maccy won the under 10’s and was second in the under12 race with a superb sprint.
Josh dominated his race going solo for the last two laps and winning in great style. Both carried the mighty Willesden colours with pride to the top step of the podium, congratulations to both on a brilliant night.

Mo(o)re three wheeled records
Mark Brooking and Jane Moore saddled up on the Longborrow and aimed for a record or two, or more.
Here is Mark’s report –
Twenty years on from the last 12 hour I rode and with with zero speed training the heavyweight man and machine came up trumps!
At the start there were two gents of similar vintage on a standard tandem. They lasted less than 3 hours.
So Mark Brooking and Jane Moore stuck it out to –
1. Record 206.95miles and become VTTA National 12 hour champions.
2. Also won the tandem event
3. Can claim a Willesden club record as previous stoker was from
another club.
4. I think it might also be a national VTTA best for 54/47 age
group.
5. It is a best for the London and home counties group as they have
no tandem trike figures recorded. Jim Burghin will know more
about that than I do.
Some pictures from the event attached.

Willesden Duo Take Podium at Lee Valley
Connor Woodford and I (Alex Pierce) rode the Full Gas Legacy meeting at Stratford Saturday night.
In the Scratch, a late move got away which picked up the first two positions. I won the bunch sprint getting 3rd overall and first in the u30 category, while Connor came across the line in 6th taking 2nd in our category.
The elimination race was a little sketchy to say the least, and having been barged up the track one too many times I went out about half way through. Connor rode well on the front as usual and ended up with 3rd in our category.
The points race started out quickly, and Connor and I started on the back foot having missed out the first set of points. However as the race went on I started to feel stronger, winning the second to last set of points and riding away in the last 3 laps to take the last set. I finished second overall and first in the u30 category, with Connor just behind me in second.
All in all a good evening of racing but waiting on clarification for BC points!
