Warmer weather this weekend and riders are now getting ready for the season ahead. The Spring Chicken Road Race organised by the Hemel Hempstead C.C. at Chardon in Buckinghamshire on Saturday saw the Squadra Verde in action. Richard Jerome was placed 27th in a tightly bunched sprint for the line. Peter Dixon was unfortunate to puncture on the penultimate lap but continued and was placed 63rd whilst Rich Cooper was unable to keep up with the main bunch and retired on the penultimate lap.
Chris James traveled to Aldermarston to ride in the Middlesex R.C. 10 mile time trial only to find that roadworks meant that the course was shortened to 8 miles. He finished the distance in 22.53.
Saturday was also the last event in the Go Ride series at Hillingdon Cycle Circuit which the Willesden C.C. have been running. Over 30 novice riders took part ranging from age 5 to 16. Medals were awarded and riders received a bell and a bottle. The kids had a great time but for us helpers it was freezing cold and windy but rewarding to see their faces when they won a medal. The event was organised by Ray Kelly who was celebrating his 65th birthday and his retirement from working for British Cycling.
All for now,
Cheers Gladys
