WCC Club Chairman Ian Why has received details of an interesting petition urging that a database of stolen bicycle frame numbers be made freely available to potential buyers. This way buyers can check on the legal provenance of the goods before committing to a purchase. Whilst some police forces collect this information it is only made available via a third party company called Immobilise who make a charge for providing this service.
The petition calls for all police forces to update the database with stolen frame numbers and to make this freely available to anyone wishing to search it contents.
