Results from Glad – Hippy wins a short TT!

1-02-Combine 10 1-3-15 (9)At the West London Combine 10 mile event yesterday, Stuart Birnie, who last year took the world’s 24 hour championship, finished in first place in a field of 120 riders with a time of 21mins 58 seconds. Nick Mc Cullough finished in 26.01, Annie Birch 32.25, Mick Paddington 33.01 and Ray Kelly 34.21.

After 2 months off with a broken thumb Rich Cooper rode in the Southern XC Round 1 event at Black Park finishing in 26th place.

John Williams,, having a rest from his bike ,took part in the Wormwood Scrubs Park run and his time of 29minutes put him in 21st place overall and 2nd in his age group.

Our track riders had a rest as the Revolution Series was taking place at Stratford.

Willesden CC Condor Support Races – 3 May 2015

We are  delighted to announce the Willesden will be putting on both Youth and 3/4 Cat races in support of the Condor London 3-Day race series at Hillingdon Circuit.

Willesden racers are expected to ride if they can. Lets show them what we have!

Mountain Biking In Italy

Hi Ray,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you about meeting up on a bike somewhere. I’ve had a few issues with my back, hip and knee – apprently due to sitting down at a desk too much! I’m confined at the moment to the turbo and swimming.
Anyway, I thought I’d send you this link about mountain biking in Piemonte. When I had my house there (sold in 2011, unfortunately), Guiseppe Rossi – one of the organisers for this MTB project – was my next door neighbour. He and his family were extremely pleasant and friendly neighbours to have and Guiseppe is a very keen and committed cyclist and cycling organiser. He has run numerous cycle training courses for children and young people over a number of years and for awhile had a purpose-built MTB course on the hill next to his house.
Would Willesden be happy to place a link on the website for ‘Cycling and Hiking In Piemonte’? I can highly recommend both the area (Province of Asti, near Acqui Terme) for its cycling terrain (perfect for both MTB and road) and the expertise and skill of Guiseppe and his colleagues. In addition to this, Piemonte is famed for its cuisine and wines and there are numerous excellent restaurants and vineyards close to where Guiseppe lives.
There are plenty of places to stay nearby, whether at small hotels or ‘Agriturismos’ – usually wine producers who also have accommodation.
Access is good too, with airports at Milan, Turin and Genoa 1.5 to 2 hours drive away.

Velodrome Session Saturday 21st February

Find attached list of riders and the groups you are in. Also programme for the day.

Please arrive in good time we are on the track from 13.00 to 15.00.

We will be allowed in the track centre 30 mins before our start time.

Cost is £12.00 for senior club members. £5.00 for 18s and under and £15.00 for Guest riders.

You can hire bikes at the velodrome this is nothing to do with the club.

Please make sure you have cycling kit track mitts and a helmet without a visor.

Track Results from Stratford 12th Feb

Another good night for the Willesden at the Olympic  velodrome  last Thursday.  The team of Marianne Harding, Jayne Paine, Tom Zittel , Alex Pierce and Connor Woodford achieved some great results. Jayne come 2nd in the points race, 3rd in the elimination race, 4th in the 40 lap scratch and 5th in the 30 lap. Tom showed a return to the form he had last year coming 3rd in the elimination and 5th in the 30 lap. Connor once more in top form came 1st in the 30 lap, 2nd in the elimination, 3rd in the points race and 5th in the 40 lap scratch. Connor leads the track league with 2 meetings to go
and Jayne is equal 2nd in the ladies league

Tomorrow: Willesden Track Team at Lee Valley

Tomorrow night we have a large team racing at Lee Valley Velodrome. A great opportunity to support the green jersey and watch some exciting racing!

Everything kicks off at 7pm with the 30 lap scratch followed by a packed program of 11 events.

Connor Woodford is leading the Men’s C league at the moment with Alex Pierce 21st overall and Gildas Braine 31st.

Jayne Paine currently sits in 3rd overall for the women. Only a few points separate her from 2nd place, Keira McVitty, so there will be plenty to watch! (full standings here)

The Velodrome can be easily reached by tube (Stratford Station) or if you are driving there is a free car park just outside.

2015 Time Trial Season starts here !

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2015 time trial season !

One bit of news for this year, we have raised the fee for entries to £5 per race. Remember once you enter, whether you race on the day or not, you will still need to pay. If whatever reason you enter and can’t compete, as long as you give me enough notice and I can get you withdrawn from the start sheet you won’t need to pay. Basically if your name is on the start sheet, you pay.

Has it only be 4 months since our last event of 2014? Time has flown by and I am hoping you’ve all been on those turbo trainers and braving the weather to put in the miles.

Entries are now being taken for the first event of the season , which as usual is held on the Maidenhead thicket course on March 1st . It could be raining, it could be snowing and windy. But as all of you who have competed the last few years, it is rarely warm and probably at least two of the conditions I mentioned.
If you could let me have you entry by February 20th along with your personal best for a 10 mile time trial and I can get you on the start sheet.

Isle of Wight Randonnee

IoW Randonnee 2015

The 2015 Isle of Wight Randonnee will be held on Sunday 3rd May 2015. As is now the custom it will be run in a clockwise direction and there is a choice of two rides. The 100km route involves a complete circumnavigation of the Isle, while the 55km rides takes in the NW quarter of the island with an excursion inland to Newport.

The event starts at 9am from any of the control points and this year entrants will be limited to 2,000 places only.  To register online asap please go to http://www.cycleisland.co.uk/index.php…

The IoW Randonnee clashes with the Condor Cycles 3-day Stage race, where the Willesden CC will be organising the second stage (Sunday 3rd May 15) at Hillingdon, so volunteers will be much needed here.

Results from Stratford Velodrome 29/1/15

3 riders at Stratford Velodrome last Thursday 29th January.  Jayne Paine and Connor Woodford together with Tom Zittel  riding his first races on the indoor track. Tom rode very well attacking in a lot of the races and finishing well up in a big field of riders. Jayne started slowly but got better as the evening went on with 5th in the points race 3rd in the elimination and 3rd in the 40 lap scratch. Jayne is now 3rd in the overall standing for female riders. Connor was on great form winning both the 30 lap scratch and the Elimination race.  He came second in the points race and the 40 lap scratch. He now leads the senior intermediate track league although still only 16.
