Results from Final week of Winter track League

There were two evenings of racing over the last week to finish off the track league at the Olympic velodome. On Monday 23rd Connor and Alex rode the 3 events with Connor taking third in the elimination and 4th in the points race. Despite some great efforts from Alex, Andrew Smith gained enough points over the three events to be equal with Connor on points overall. On Thursday with a good crowd in attendance of Willesden supporters Marianne, Jayne, Tom and Connor rode three events each. They started with an Elimination race with Connor winning and Tom taking 5th. Jayne come second in the ladies race with Marianne staying in contention . This was followed by a Scratch race in which Connor came 4th just edging out his rival Andrew Smith. Jayne come third in the ladies scratch. The last race was a points race and Connor came third with Jayne 5th in the ladies race. We all now waited for the final points to be added and a great result for the Club with Connor winning the ‘C’ league and Jayne second in the Ladies League.

Jane Moore – It’s Official!

Jane Moore received her certificate at the RRA lunch last week, which formally recognises her End-to-End record breaking ride.

Pictured below are three three lady End-to-Enders, they are

– Eileen Sheridan who set the women’s bike record in 1954.

– Lynne Taylor who has established the record twice on a bike and once on a mixed tandem.

– The Willesden CC’s very own Jane Moore who set the trike record in 2014 and the only award winner this time at what was quite a gathering of endurance athletes.

Mark Brooking has also been honoured with a place on the RRA committee. This is highly deserved as Mark put in an phenomenal amount of work into the preparation and running of Jane’s record ride. Well done Mark!

Lee Valley Velodrome Track League – March 12th + Photos

16640221939_ca5b2fb868_z

Another great night for the Willesden last Thursday at the track league in Stratford!

In the women’s events Jayne and Marianne were both riding very well. Jayne further cemented her 2nd place in the league table with a 1st in the opening 30 lap scratch race followed by a 2nd in both the Points and 40 lap scratch races. Jayne was called out early in the elimination while Marianne continued to give the Willesden spectators someone to cheer for! I really enjoy watching the women racing, the competition is fierce!

The large group of Willesden supporters also had plenty to watch in the men’s races. In the opening scratch I (Tom) attacked from the gun but only ever gained a third of a lap advantage before being joined by a PMR@Thachim rider by which time I had sat up totally knackered. Connor was looking strong for the rest of the race and finished it off in 2nd behind Stephen Vinning (East London Velo).
In the points race we both managed to grab a handful with Connor finishing 3rd and me 4th. Ian Prenelle (Finsbury Park CC) took the top spot which has helped him close in on Connor’s overall lead.
The elimination was next up and we both stayed out of trouble until there were only three or four eliminations left at which point I was called out for riding on the blue, bugger, that will teach me! Connor made it to the final sprint where Paul Morton (PMR@Toachim House) led from the front. Only Connor was able to hold Morton’s wheel who showing his strength took 1st place with Connor just behind.
The final scratch race of the evening followed where eventually a break formed with both Connor and myself in the mix. When it came down to the last few laps I could only watch as the sprint started and the others started to pull away. Connor took a fine 1st place and with it maximum points in the league table, I think I was 6th or so.

In the overall competition Connor is still leading by 26 points. Just behind is Andrew Smith (unattached) who is in the other C group racing while we are off the track. Andrew won every race he rode and gained 40 points on the night while Connor picked up 32. The C league has the closest competition for the overall win in the whole series!

Full Gas have added two additional nights of racing for the Women and C groups starting with tonight where Connor will be defending his lead. The final Thursday night meeting will be the 26th of March at 7pm.

We had a great group of supporters in the stands and hope to see them again next week!

Club Runs March-May 2015

In astonishing news just in, it appears that a new club runs list has emerged.  A team of archaeologists and other world-experts are now examining it to establish whether it is authentic.  There are one or two new destinations on the list which suggest it could be a figment of someone’s imagination.  Judge for yourself by downloading the Word document here.

Mountain Biking In Italy

Hi Ray,
Sorry I didn’t get back to you about meeting up on a bike somewhere. I’ve had a few issues with my back, hip and knee – apprently due to sitting down at a desk too much! I’m confined at the moment to the turbo and swimming.
Anyway, I thought I’d send you this link about mountain biking in Piemonte. When I had my house there (sold in 2011, unfortunately), Guiseppe Rossi – one of the organisers for this MTB project – was my next door neighbour. He and his family were extremely pleasant and friendly neighbours to have and Guiseppe is a very keen and committed cyclist and cycling organiser. He has run numerous cycle training courses for children and young people over a number of years and for awhile had a purpose-built MTB course on the hill next to his house.
Would Willesden be happy to place a link on the website for ‘Cycling and Hiking In Piemonte’? I can highly recommend both the area (Province of Asti, near Acqui Terme) for its cycling terrain (perfect for both MTB and road) and the expertise and skill of Guiseppe and his colleagues. In addition to this, Piemonte is famed for its cuisine and wines and there are numerous excellent restaurants and vineyards close to where Guiseppe lives.
There are plenty of places to stay nearby, whether at small hotels or ‘Agriturismos’ – usually wine producers who also have accommodation.
Access is good too, with airports at Milan, Turin and Genoa 1.5 to 2 hours drive away.
Let me know if you need any more information.
Cheers,
Dan
