A fine picture of the Kensal Rise CC taken sometime when. What ever happened to the KRCC? Anyone?
Tom Zittel: Yesterday Connor and I rode the second round of Welwyn Track League, both of us in the B’s.
It was a lovely warm and clear evening with larger fields than last week.
In the opening 10 lap scratch I finished 3rd and Connor just behind in 4/5th.
The block pursuit followed with each of us in opposite teams. I found the pace in my group variable and did a few full lap turns or more. Connor had a similar situation in the back straight. In the end Connor took a well earned 2nd as his group won the event.
In the devil Connor rode near the front while I sat on the back of the group. We both made it to the last 4 riders when I attacked hard thinking it was the last lap. As I crossed the line with a sizeable gap they were ringing the bell! I had to really dig in and crossed the line a few meters ahead of Connor who took 2nd.
Willesden 1-2!
Neither of us made it to the end of the 10 mile scratch. there were some really handy A riders this week. Only 9 made the finish after 21 minutes.
Another great night for the Willesden!
Mark Brooking has sent in this link to Mark and Jane’s recent Longbarrow outing on the Green & Yellow Fields 300km Audax.
They also feature in the link’s video at 3′:00″ thundering towards a bacon sarny
Tom Zittel: Alex Pierce, Connor and I rode the first Welwyn Track League meet of the season all of us in the B category. Alex had come all the way down from Manchester but forgot an 8mm allen key to put pedals on his bike. Eventually, one was borrowed just in time for the opening 10lap scratch.
The group wasn’t very disciplined and after only a few laps Alex was off the front while Connor and I did our best to discourage the chase. With a few laps to go Connor put in a dig to join Alex but was brought back. On the bell lap, it was clear Alex was out of reach. I found myself in the chase group of three and finished 3rd overall. Great teamwork and Alex was promoted to the As.
In the B points race, I managed to get away solo for a few laps and bank some points. After I was caught Connor slipped away with another rider. In the end, I think we both made the podium pending official results. Alex was pushing hard in the A race grabbing a handful of points.
Connor rode the devil very well as usual. He was near the front when I was caught sleeping and boxed in early in the race. Connor went on the win!
The last race was the A/B 10 mile scratch, everyone started together instead of the Bs getting a handicap. There were three prime laps and on the final one I had the opportunity to get on a handy A rider’s wheel as he wound up for the sprint. When we crossed the line I just managed to overtake him. I was sure I would be dropped after the effort but when we joined the main group I recovered and sat in for the rest of the race. With two laps to go, I was on the front when Michael Skipsey went for a late break. I did my best to stay on his wheel knowing everyone else had sat up looking at each other. In the end, he rode me off his wheel and I finished 2nd just ahead of the main group! My best result at Welwyn for sure.
Great teamwork and a brilliant night of racing all round.
Jayne Paine finished 2nd in the hour long race at Gravesend Cyclopark after making a break and finished just an inch behind the winner.
Gill Reynolds rode in the Cambridge 10 recording 26.39 in winter conditions and
Pavel Zarovskiy managed to complete the 300km Green and Yellow Fields Audax event encountering snow and heavy rain.
All for now,
Gladys

Tony Lusardi: Two riders for Willesden raced Tuesday night. Connor Woodford made a welcome return to the team taking on the E123. Darryl Lusardi rode both races after a rather shambolic 3/4’s which resulted in few riders crashing into a pedestrian who wandered onto the track forcing the race to be shortened to the annoyance of most riders. both rode well but without the results of late.
Jane Moore: I went to Cirencester with a former Chelmer club mate, Chris Regan, to get in a long ride on the usually benign Heart of England 300. Unusually I was on two wheels. It would have been my fourth outing on this event but nothing prepared us for what followed…..
Gill Reynolds rode in the Westerley C.C. 10 mile event at Marlow yesterday . It was bitterly cold and snowing when she started . Nevertheless she returned in 26 mins 11seconds gaining 3rd fastest lady and 4th Vets places.
Jayne Paine: I got a 2nd place in the CC Hackney Primavera E1234 race at Lee Valley Circuit Saturday, beaten on the line by Maddie Gammon.
Funny race – terribly slow. Only me and Detta Guerrini having an attack or keeping the pace up. Lazy lot. I attacked and then there was a wee crash behind me which I took full advantage of 🙂 . I was out on my own for 4 laps with 2 to go (nasty cold wind). I eased up when I saw the bunch catching. I did another half lap with a girl who had been chasing, then as the bunch shot past us, with surprising speed I jumped in with them. Should have gone to Specsavers – the girls were actually men so I swung out milliseconds later. Continue reading

Alex Pierce: I raced at Tameside circuit yesterday evening in the 2/3/4.
Was a little surprised at how hard I was finding the race and my power data was way higher than it usually is in the e/1/2. I just couldn’t seem to move up in the sprint and ended up in 11th place. However afterwards it was pointed out to me that everyone was having a laugh at me as I somehow hadn’t realised that I had ridden in the little ring the whole race.
Taking spin-to-win to a whole new level. Hopefully some better results in the next few weeks!
Tony Lusardi’s Race Update: BCWT 3 at Hillingdon 19 April we had the Squadra Verde grab some excellent results, the team rode very strong throughout the race, two riders broke away and just kept it until the line when the bunch sprint came charging in, Darryl Lusardi’s powerful sprint got him 3rd, Sam Grant rode a blinder earning him his best ever result 10th followed a little later by new team member Andy Taylor. Well done guys, really proud! 👍🏻
Cormac Nisbet not only smashed it up PB on Sa Calobra while in Majorca last week it was featured on yesterday’s GCN Show. Nice work Maccy!
WCC Audax Day
Sunday 15th May 2016
Anne Mograby is organising these two special Audax rides, catering for all tastes and fitnesses. They are –
“10 Bridges” 100km Audax

Featuring, one ride, two cafes, one river and TEN (yes, count them) Thames bridges
Many of you may know this ride, which was previously organised by Mick Hill and John Tipping. It was last run by Ian Oliver who has revamped the route sheets.
It really does show the best of the river Thames. Starting at Jenner’s cafe there are a few ups to Marlow, then to Hambleden, Henley and Sonning. The ride goes through some pretty villages before half way stop at Dinton Pastures. The second half of the ride takes towards Ascot and through the Great Park. On the home strait back to Maidenhead you visit Datchet, Eton and the Fat Duck in Bray.

Josh Copley rode in the West London Combine event on the Amersham rode . This was his first ride at 25 miles and he took the Junior club record with time of 1.00.13
Stuart Birnie broke the club’s 25-mile record on Saturday. He rode in the Lea Valley CC event and recorded a time of 50:02. The previous record of 50:37 was set by Meurig James in 2009.
Karen Pardoe took the 1st lady award in the 45 to 49 category in the recent Bedford Autodrome Duathlon finishing in 66 mins 28 secs.
Gill Reynolds was very unlucky in her choice of events. One was cancelled because of Roadworks and the other because of flooding.
All for now
