Bike Blenheim Palace marks an exciting day in the UK Time Trial season as for the first time the oak lined roads of Blenheim Palace are opened expert and novice Time Trialists. On a course closed to traffic, the 20km route in conjunction with Cycling Time Trials involves three loops of the magnificent Park, circling the great lake. The route through the ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped parkland, that helped give Blenheim Palace its World Heritage Site status, passes Vanbrugh’s Grand Bridge and the 134ft Column of Victory.
The focus then turns to an Elite cycling race organised by British Cycling. Watch 60 of Britain’s top racing cyclists made up of Elite, 1st and 2nd category riders complete 1 hour and 1 lap of the fantastic closed road circuit within the Palace grounds. Expect racing to be ferocious with speeds as high as 70 -80km/h in places on the 6.5km circuit.
Following the speed and the excitement of the races, Bike Blenheim Palace will be the proud host of the Brompton World Championships 2008. This is a sight not to be missed with up to 500 competitors from all over the world racing around the beautiful Queens Pool in their jacket and ties. For more information visit bromptonbicycle.co.uk
The day then becomes family oriented as cycling routes of varying lengths are opened to the general public. The event promises to be a great day for competitors and families with a fantastic event village and live demonstrations in the exhibition arena.
