At Welwyn Track last week in the 10 lap scratch race Alex Pierce attacked with one lap to go and held on to the line for a fine win. Connor Woodford finished 4th. In the 10 lap handicap Alex and Connor both started on scratch and rode well to finish in 2nd and 3rd places. Connor is now top of the Senior B league.
At Hillingdon circuit in the BCF West Thames event Darryl Lusardi took llth place and Tony Lusardi and Ryan Finestone finished just outside the top 10 despite of Tony having a puncture after 7 laps.
On the Amersham Road in the West London Combine 10 mile T.T. John Wheatley and his wife Lynn made their debut on a tandem recording 29.30. Nick Mc Cullough also rode and finished in 23.24.
Ray Kelly, our chief coach, took our youth team to London and they rode in the Tour of Britain Go Ride event finishing well up in 4th place. Photo attached showing them near the Houses of Parliament.

On Friday 5th September our young riders again performed well at Welwyn Track. In the 10 lap scratch Alex Pierce attacked with a lap to go and held on all the way to the line for a fine win, Connor Woodford finished 4th. The 10 lap handicap was a hard fast race with Alex getting second and Connor third despite starting on scratch with just one other rider. With only one week to go Connor is 3rd in the senior B league.
Darryl Lusardi came 11th in the E123 Race this afternoon at Hillingdon’s BC West Thames Race, he sat comfortably in the group that worked hard to chase down a 3 man break which was out there for best part of the race, sadly they didn’t achieve it and for the chasers it came down to a bunch sprint to which Darryl was at the fore front.
It was the usual duo (myself and Ryan in the 3/4, I puntured with about 7 laps to go, managed to get a wheel change and get back in the race to come just outside the top 10 with Ryan Finestone just behind.
Report and photos from Tony Lusardi
Great inside footage of the last 3/4 Race @ Hillingdon in August showing Ryan Finestone getting his 8th place! (skip to the sprint)
Thanks to Tony Lusardi for spotting this and Rob Parkin for the video.
Jane Moore went down to Kent and managed to break the club record she already holds recording approx 190 miles.
On Saturday, on the fast Tring course, Ed Packard recorded 22.23, Gill Reynolds 24.27 and Brian Moon 27.20 in the Icknield R.C. 10 mile event.
Peter Cookson rode in the VTTA Essex 10 and finished in 22.37.

Ok peeps just a gentle reminder that after Friday night training is the monthly meeting so if you can’t make it please send Wendy or me an email report please.
Hope to see everyone on Friday!
Over twenty Willesden members made it to the Semaine this August, here is a short video from the trip.
Thanks to all those who have volunteered for marshalling duties so far.
The HQ is the Little Milton Village Hall. The postcode is OX44 7QP. This is different from the previous HQ we have used in Gt Milton. The village hall is at the north end of the village A329, approximately 2.5 miles and 3 minutes drive south of junction 7 of the M40.
Please aim to arrive by 08-30 – the first race is at 09:30 and the second at 13:30. You should be at your marshal point about ten minutes before each race start.
I will allocate people to a marshalling point on the day. The circuit is 24km in length.
There is a map of the circuit on the Thames Velo website here: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/thamesvelo2014-34
Thanks again for your help and see you Sunday.
In addition to doling out a ton of cash to the top riders in the Willesden road races, the ever-resourceful Jayne Paine has secured an extra special prize for the fastest racers.
The top five in each of the Dulcie Walker Memorial (for 3/4, women and juniors) and in the John Walker Trophy (E/1/2) will receive two free movement therapy classes with yoga, pilates and dance teacher Marcela Wakeham.
Movement what?!
Movement therapy is a discipline devised by Marcela specifically for athletes who train and compete hard, and it’s designed to prepare the body for peak performance on the bike.
It draws, so Marcela tells us, on a variety of physical disciplines and therapies such as yoga, pilates and dance to:
In essence, Marcela’s approach to physical preparation is based on undoing the muscular imbalances caused by patterns of repeated movements. Cycling is a classic case of this, where we repeat the same motion over and over.
In so doing, we strengthen some muscles and tire them out through overuse; others lie weak and dormant – and this leaves us prone to injuries such as ligament damage.
Marcela promises to “help athletes eradicate patterns of movement that are out of balance, and to isolate common movement errors that cause injury and rob athletes of speed, power and endurance”.
Can’t say fairer than that!
So, if you want to get yourself TWO free movement therapy classes with Marcela, you’ll just have to finish in the top five…
If you’re not top five material, but would like to be, you can still email Marcela to enquire about classes.
Timetrialists have been busy this week.
On Saturday Ed Packard rode a 100 mile Sportive around the roads of Suffolk but he got up on Sunday and in the Stowmarket & Didtrict 10 recorded his 2nd fastest time of the year in 23.07.
Also on Saturday riding in the Bossard Wheelers 10 near Luton Gill Reynolds was the 3rd fastest lady in 26.17. Clubmates Pete Cookson and Brian Moon recorded 23.57 and 28.55. Sunday saw Gill take the 2nd fastest lady award with a 26.28 in the Fairly United 10 in Oxfordshire. (photos provided by Jun Aishima)
The Track season is coming to an end-(light and weather conditions having an effect) but the club ran their own Track Championship event at Welwyn yesterday. Unfortunately Tom Zittel did not contest the last 2 events as he crashed in the Scratch race.
Connor Woodford Schoolboy Champion
Jayne Paine Ladies Champion
Roger Woodford Senior Champion
Alex Pierce Junior Champion.
Ray George was the best placed Veteran
Kye Lewis the best placed under 12
Connor Woodford won the 5 event Omnium. 22 members took part including 3 who were under 8! Happy to say that Tom’s injuries were cuts and bruises which were treated at the local hospital.
All for now,
Gladys
Good turnout again for the club track champs at Welwyn on Sunday. Connor Woodford who rode consistently throughout won the 5 event Omnium. Tom Zittel who had won the points race crashed in the scratch and was unable to continue.
Thanks goes to Charlotte and the Kellys for the following photos.

2014-06-15 Newbury RC 12hr TT – H12hr/8
Snippet from Stuart’s report:
Second place to current BBAR Champion Adam Topham’s 298.13 miles as well as a PB and Willesden CC club record by over 20 miles.
I started a bit faster than I’d planned to and than I’d usually do but I knew I was fitter this year and hadn’t ridden a 24hr TT three weeks prior so I was fresh and pretty sure my power should be up. It was and I felt comfortable holding the higher power. It was a power PB by almost 20W for the 12hr duration so pretty good.
Full report can be found on Stuart’s blog.
Snippet from Rachael Elliott’s race report:
“…National 24-hour champion Stuart Birnie (Willesden CC) to clock a second 100 miles faster than Topham. It was getting painstakingly close. Somehow, despite his issues, Topham managed to put in a third 100 miles in a sub-4 hour time and finished strongly to record an exceptional distance of 298.13 miles. Birnie meanwhile, who reportedly spent just 31 seconds off the bike all day, broke his old personal best by over twenty miles with 293.63 miles. And testament to his long distance credentials, circuit timekeeper Marion Fountain reported that Birnie finished the 12 hour time trial looking stronger than most riders do at the end of a 10.”
I’m sharing some information you might find interesting, which will help anyone planning get togethers for the club.
Here is a link to an interactive (anonymised, limited zoom) map of all the postcodes of Willesden members. We’re definitely mainly west Londoners! Very cool to see some members in far flung places too.
Any surprises, or just as you expected?
🙂

I won at Thruxton today the hard way. And I think had there not been some men in green cheering me on I might have bailed halfway through. Thankyou Lusardis and a Finestone!
-Jayne Paine

Darryl Lusardi came in around 12th in the 3rd cat race, Ryan Finestone finally broke top 10 in the 4th’s with a fantastic sprint in the bunch. Well done guys!
